Physical Planning Services
UPO provides the University-wide perspective to physical planning across Harvard’s campuses. Central planning efforts increase coordination among faculties and departments and enables the University to succeed in:
- Identifying opportunities for effective use of land, buildings, and infrastructure.
- Providing wiser choices about siting programs in appropriate locations.
- Providing a long-range physical planning context for short-term decisions regarding use of space.
- Coordinating the cumulative impact of multiple planning activities so that results are coherent and well designed, and that projects are sequenced to the University’s best advantage.
UPO uses several strategic approaches and processes to help guide a comprehensive University planning framework, including cross-faculty physical planning, geographic physical planning, and designer selection and design review.
